CBS News reporter Byron Pitts speaking at Oklahoma Salute to Excellence Awards in Journalism
The Tulsa Association of Black Journalists’ Oklahoma Salute to Excellence Awards in Journalism is set for Nov. 21 at TCC’s new Center for Creativity at 910 S. Boston Ave.
The banquet speaker is Byron Pitts, CBS News and “60 Minutes” reporter.
Pitts is the author of an autobiography titled “Step Out on Nothing: How Faith and Family Helped Overcome Life’s Obstacles.”
Full-priced tickets of $50 include a copy of the book, which Pitts will autograph.
Also, awards will be given for excellence in the coverage of the black community and the African diaspora.
The Yvonne Harris Journalism Scholarships will go to students who plan careers in journalism. Special honors will be given for lifetime achievement and community service.
TABJ’s Urban Journalism Workshop students will showcase their work.
